Siobhan talks about the benefits of sometimes saying no
As life is returning to what we identify as a sense of normality, it is really important that we take time to look after ourselves physically, mentally and emotionally and this can involve having to tell people “no”. Could saying “no” benefit you more often?
You may find that you may feel eager, happy, excited or even pressured about meeting others again. While it’s important to acknowledge how we feel, just be mindful to be kind to yourself during this transition.
Saying “no” sometimes is a way to realize your worth. Saying no to people can be hard if you have spent your life saying yes, for fear of letting others down. But by saying “no”, you are actually giving yourself permission to have the necessary space and time for you to care about yourself and grow. If you are feeling tired, exhausted or just in general want a day to yourself, it’s okay to say “no” to others and yes to you.
Give yourself time to practice using this word. If saying “no” feels too much you can look for other alternatives, such as “no thank you” or “not today, but how about another day?”
Enjoy your time with yourself.
Good luck!
Siobhan
