Self-Care Tips

Rebecca introduces us to Hygge

As we move into autumn, the shift in seasons can be a great opportunity to turn inward and focus on nurturing ourselves. A simple yet powerful self-care practice you can adopt is creating a "hygge" space in your home.

Hygge (pronounced "hoo-gah") is a Danish concept centred on finding a sense of cozy contentment and well-being. It’s not about grand gestures; it’s about appreciating the small, comforting moments that bring you peace and provide a place of containment and safety.

Here’s how you can mindfully create your own hygge space:

•    Choose a mindful location. Find a spot where you feel naturally at ease—a nook, the corner of a room, a favourite chair, or even your bed. Let this be your own personal sanctuary.

•    Engage your senses. Add elements that bring you a feeling of warmth and comfort. This could be the soft texture of a wool blanket, the gentle flicker of a candle, the aroma of a warm mug of tea, or the simple pleasure of a good book.

•    Allow yourself to simply be. The goal of this space is to give you permission to slow down. When you’re in your hygge space, try to set aside your to-do list and the needs of others and simply enjoy the present moment. This dedicated time can help you recharge and find a sense of inner calm as the days grow shorter.

•    Wherever possible, leave your mobile phone somewhere else, and allow yourself the time to disconnect from the external world, whilst really connecting with your internal world.

By intentionally carving out this time for yourself, you are building a valuable routine that can help support your emotional well-being throughout the season.
