Self-Care Tips

Maria suggests several ideas which can help to reduce anxiety and improve focus.

Life is full on sometimes and not making time to take care of our self can lead to having bad days, It’s normal! You’re not alone but letting people know can feel risky as it can leave you feeling vulnerable. Sometimes we must take that risk by sharing with others what’s happening, this can be the start to changing the way you feel and putting you back in control. Knowing the things that you can do, then putting them in place during the day can help reduce stress, anxiety and depression is only going to be good for you!

So, start by making your bed when you get out of it in the morning, (You will appreciate this later.)

Get up, get active, go for a 10-minute walk (or more), 5 mins out 5 mins back. Build this into your daily routine you could increase it weekly, do it during your tea break, lunch breaks, anytime.

Book yourself into have a massage, or if that’s not for you try a Gong Bath, letting the sounds wash over you! Join a drumming circle, a choir, a creative workshop. Or just turn your music up and dance!

Make a dinner date with a friend; cook your favourite recipes; explore what you would like to try out next; be adventurous. Make a list of goals for future dates.

Get your clothes ready for the next day (planning cuts back on anxiety). This will mean less decision making in the morning.

Then make some time for that bath; make that time special by playing music or lighting a candle.

Some meditation/relaxation just before climbing into that made bed will help to improve your sleep. Your focus will also improve knowing you are ready for the next day ahead!
