Louise gives tips on how to connect with nature.
In our busy and challenging lives it is easy to forget that there is beauty in the world around us.
There have been many studies done which confirm that taking time out and noticing the world around us can have a positive effect on us.
Here are some ideas for connecting with nature, but I bet you can think of many more!
- Go for a walk! Whether it is in the garden, park, beach or woods. Slow your pace. Notice the leaves, flowers, animals, clouds. Take someone with you if this feels safer, but try not to chat too much; this is an exercise in noticing. Smell the air; what can you smell? Touch the trees, grass, sand. Listen to the sounds around you with curiosity and interest. Take your time; there is no rush.
- Choose a pebble or leaf or feather to take home. Focus on how it feels.
- Sit in your garden, allowing the sun or soft rain to touch your face.
- Take your dog out and watch the joy that she or he experiences.
- Use good deep breaths, close your eyes. Allow your body to relax.
Try to do this often; 2 or 3 times a week. This is your special time, free of people and free of modern day life. Humans have been doing this since time began, we have a natural connection and your body will respond if you give it the time and space.
To extend this experience, try making notes or drawings in a journal. Perhaps sticking in leaves or other things that you find.
Enjoy!
