Self-Care Tips

Carole-Anne introduces affirmations and their positive use in self-care

An affirmation is a phrase that can help you invite positivity and self-care into your daily life. They help you focus on what you want to draw into your life and can give you something to hang on to when you're having a particularly difficult day.

Working with affirmations is easy, and you probably already do this without realising it, especially if you're drawn to quotes.  Perhaps you enjoy saving your quotes over on Pinterest and maybe even hanging them in your home. They become reminders that guide us in the ways we want to live.

Here are three ideas to get you started with using affirmations as part of your self-care practice.

As a Freewriting Tool

Using an affirmation as a freewriting tool can help you peel back the layers of how you're feeling about something. Freewriting means just putting your pen to your journal and writing for several minutes without stopping or putting much conscious thought into what you're writing. Let yourself freewrite with the affirmation as a jumping off point.

As a Visual Reminder at Work and in Your Home

Seeing affirmations is the best way to keep them close to you each day.

I have affirmations and other reminders I need throughout my home and work.  From notes stuck on my fridge to brightly decorated artwork and quotes I carry around with me.  Being surrounded by these reminders help me to refocus throughout the day.

As an Intention

An intention might come from a deep wish you have inside, or it might be a shift you’re hoping for in your life (or even for the world). When working with an affirmation in this context, it becomes a way to set the tone for your day and really your life.

Examples of Affirmations:

•             I am becoming healthier every day

•             I love myself

•             I am a great ______

•             I am worthy of love

•             I am a confident and beautiful person

Create your own affirmation or find one that applies to something you are struggling with in the moment. When you begin to use affirmations as a self-care tool, you will build your self-esteem and increase your confidence.

Affirmations are a beautiful way to start and end your day.  Enjoy X.
