Ali talks to us about personal connections.
Human’s thrive when we interact with others. We are a social species, living in groups, families, streets, towns etc. We seek out others to regulate our feelings. Thinking about the current world situation and how easy it is to become disconnected form others I thought it would be a valuable resource for all of us to think about our personal connections.
Take time to sit quietly, breathe deeply in (for the count of 3) and out (for the count of 3).
Ask yourself the questions:
1. Who are the people in my life who I feel connected to?
It’s ok not to be able to think of anyone
2. What can I do with these people to maintain this connection?
Connect on the phone, social media, across the garden fence, writing a card or standing outside in the supermarket queue.
3. What can I do to nourish connection to myself?
Listening to the birds singing, meditation, walking, listening to music…. The list goes on
4. Who would I like to invite into connection?
Maybe a friend I haven’t spoken to in a while, someone who I’ve lost touch with or an online supportive group
5. What would I like to experiment with to have new connections to myself or to others?
I can use some of the above examples or maybe think of my own
